Odd State Driving Laws, Pt. 1

Posted on February 5, 2018

auto repair in Nashua, NHThrough years of providing auto repair in Nashua, NH, we all have heard of the strange laws like not allowing cattle to graze on the common on Sundays, but what about driving laws? The DMV is the bane of everybody’s existence, especially if you have waited there. We hear the horrors of the lines and the waits, but sometimes they deliver us some pieces of gold that makes it all worthwhile, in a way.

State driving laws are usually created to create a sense of safety when it comes to what drivers can and cannot do. Things like don’t drink and drive, seat belts are required, getting auto repair in Nashua, NH, and the core rules of an intersection. However, there are still some strange laws out there that the DMV finally shared with us.

Alabama

“It is illegal to drive while blindfolded.”

Our only question is, how many times did this happen before it had to become law?

Alaska

“It is illegal to tether a dog to the roof of a car.”

Well, why would that happen in any case? If so, why does the owner have a dog?

Arkansas

“It is illegal to blare a car horn where cold beverages or sandwiches get served after 9 p.m.”

Well, apparently someone at Sonic got a little too impatient waiting for food. But honestly, it’s called a quiet curfew for a reason, and it is best to respect the neighbors.

California

“It is illegal to use a road as a bed.”—Eureka, CA

If they are using the road as a bed, then maybe there is something more going on there.

“It is illegal to plant rutabagas in roadways.“—Chico, CA

Unless it is a dirt road, I don’t think this is going to be a problem.

“It is illegal to jump from a car at 65 mph”.—Glendale, CA

If they survive, you can have fun charging them.

Connecticut

“It is illegal to hunt from cars, even during deer season.”

If you can get your car to the deer, then congratulations! You deserve a trophy, just not a deer.

Georgia

“It is illegal to drive through playgrounds.”

Wasn’t that illegal anyways?

Illinois

“It is illegal to ‘fancy ride’ your bike.”

What does that even mean, Illinois? You can use your imagination on what this means because we have no idea.

Iowa

“It is illegal to throw your Red Ryder onto the highway.”

First, why are you throwing your Red Ryder? Second, shouldn’t it be illegal to throw anything onto the freeway?

Kansas

“It is a misdemeanor to screech your tires while driving.“—Derby, KS.

Punishable by 30 days in jail possibly, for screeching tires. It makes sense. It is disturbing the peace, but how many get arrested for this?

“It is unlawful to transport dead poultry along Kansas Avenue.“—Topeka, KS

Well, this brings up way too many questions for us to say, other than, why?

Kentucky

“It is illegal for your pet to attack a vehicle.”

There are no words to describe how confused we are.
